David Caufield's name in this report is now spelled with only one "F". No notation is made of the change. David Agnew Caufield came from Tyrell Hill, Ohio, Trumbull County, (later Tyrrell Hill was changed to Tyrrell, Ohio) . David Agnew Caulfield came to Washington March 1891, aone by train to Ephrata. He didn't like the country so went back to Davenport, Lincoln County, Washington, on March 23, 1891. Later that year Rebecca Eve Caufield came to Washington with her brother, Stanley Casper Peters, and the three children born in Ohio by train to Davenport. Howard was 9 months old when they came. In Davenport, Washington they bought: 2 mares, Dolly & Cress. One bay: Cress, and one Buckskin: Dolly and wagon, piled on belongings and drove to the homestead where they lived in the sod house while David built the house with Stanley Peters help. They lived at Davenport, Washington, until David Caufield bought the homestead rights from Mr. Hansen, a blind broom maker, at Davenport, Washington. The homestead was located at the head of the Keller grade, about seven miles north of Wilbur, Lincoln County, Washington.

Canfield, who lost six cows as a result of rabies, has killed all the cats of his place, including visiting felines, and one suspicious looking canine that came in the night. "I will, take no more chances," Said Mr. Canfield, and all dogs and cats that come here unattended by their owners will go the rifle route."
