John K. and Katherina (who was trained as a linen-bleacher) came through Baltimore as indentured servants. After their indenture period was over John became a follower of the Rev. Otterbein who founded the Evangelical United Brethren. John became a clergyman and founded a United Brethren church in Perry County just outside Duncannon, PA. When Otterbein died he would serve at Otterbein former church in Baltimore during the winter, and at the church near Duncannon during the farming season.

In the 1960's the Methodist Episcopal Church and the Evangelical United Brethren merged to become the United Methodist Church.
